Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness, often called a trance. This state is similar to being completely absorbed in a good book or movie, where the mind is deeply focused. In hypnotherapy, this focused state is used to help individuals explore thoughts, feelings, and memories that may be difficult to access consciously. It can also be used to suggest positive changes in behavior and thought patterns.

Key Points About Hypnotherapy:

  • Evidence-Based: Hypnotherapy is recognized by organizations like the American Psychological Association as a valid therapeutic technique for a variety of issues.
  • Not Mind Control: You remain fully in control during the session and can choose to accept or reject any suggestions.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps individuals understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that changing negative thought patterns can lead to changes in feelings and behaviors.

Key Elements of CBT:

  • Structured Approach: CBT is typically a short-term, goal-oriented therapy.
  • Problem-Solving: Focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors.
  • Skills-Based: Provides practical strategies and skills that you can use in everyday life.
  • Evidence-Based: Supported by a large body of research demonstrating its effectiveness for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress.

How Can Combining Hypnotherapy and CBT Help Me to Manage My Stress and Anxiety?

Combining Hypnotherapy and CBT can provide a powerful approach to managing stress and anxiety by leveraging the strengths of both techniques.

Benefits of Combining Hypnotherapy and CBT:

  • Deep Relaxation: Hypnotherapy helps induce deep relaxation, making it easier to access and change subconscious thought patterns.
  • Enhanced Cognitive Restructuring: Hypnotherapy can enhance the effects of CBT by reinforcing positive changes in thought patterns and behaviors at a subconscious level.
  • Comprehensive Approach: While CBT focuses on identifying and changing negative thoughts and behaviors, hypnotherapy can address underlying emotional responses and subconscious beliefs.
  • Personal Empowerment: Together, these therapies equip you with both conscious strategies and subconscious reinforcement to manage stress and anxiety more effectively.

Evidence-Based Support:

  • Studies have shown that combining CBT with hypnotherapy can enhance treatment outcomes for anxiety and stress-related disorders.
  • Hypnotherapy can make the cognitive restructuring process of CBT more effective by helping to break down resistance and facilitate deeper psychological change.

Is Online Therapy Effective?

Online Therapy involves providing psychological services and support over the internet through video calls, phone calls, or messaging. It has become increasingly popular and has been shown to be effective for many people.

Effectiveness of Online Therapy:

  • Convenience and Accessibility: Allows you to access therapy from the comfort of your home, making it easier to fit into a busy schedule.
  • Evidence-Based: Research indicates that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for various issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress management.
  • Flexible Options: Offers a range of communication methods, allowing you to choose what works best for you (video, phone, or chat).
  • Confidentiality: Maintains strict confidentiality standards, similar to in-person therapy.

Support from Professional Organizations:

  • The American Psychological Association and other professional bodies endorse online therapy as a viable option for mental health treatment.
  • Numerous studies have found that online CBT, in particular, is effective for treating anxiety and depression.

“I felt really safe working with Claire. She was gentle but knew exactly what I needed and steered me towards greater understanding. I trusted her and felt comfortable exposing my vulnerability. I had absolute confidence in her ability, and she wasted no time in getting me on track. I tend to catastrophise when faced with anything out of my comfort zone, so the hypnotherapy I had enabled me to contemplate being successful in my new business, and to enjoy what that would feel like, without all the anxiety getting in the way. I cannot thank Claire enough, not only does she have the most soothing voice I've ever heard, she's a superb therapist and really got me"

“I found Claire to be extremely professional. For me, she is naturally warm, kind, fun, and most importantly, authentic. I felt Claire really listened to what my individual needs were and supported me to get clear on what I wanted to achieve through our work. Our time together always felt focused on me. It was my time, my session, all about me. At each session and between sessions I always got a clear sense that Claire was always working in how to best support me.''
